What is Pelvic Floor dysfunction?

It is estimated that around 1 in 3 women will experience women’s health problems at some point in their lives. Advertising and the media normalise ‘leaking’, leaving women to believe that it’s ‘just one of those things that we have to live with’. Many women are too embarrassed to discuss it and seek help or are unaware that there is treatment available.


Leaking urine at any time is not right. Be it during exercise or when you laugh, sneeze or cough (stress incontinence), maybe when you are trying to get the key in the door and you just can’t hold it any longer (urge incontinence). It is not something you should have to tolerate.




At Inner Strength Fitness we use a full body approach to treat and reduce the symptoms associated with women’s health problems. 


We focus on alignment, improving your posture and better breathing habits. You will be taught how to ‘find’ your pelvic floor muscles, how to contract them, but more importantly how to relax them. Once you have reconnected with your pelvic floor and core muscles, you can then start to strengthen them. You will follow a programme which will include strength exercises and stretches, as well as other advice for day to day living. You will need to put in the work at home too as there is no ‘quick fix’, it will take time and effort!


A minimum of 5 sessions are recommended. You are seen every 3-4 weeks, with homework to do in-between each session.
